Myrtle Joyner Jenkins

Sylvania - Myrtle Doris Joyner Jenkins, age 101, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at her home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and her dedicated, loving family. She was born in Screven County, GA to the late Matthew Boney & Bertie Mae Peavey Joyner and was the widow of the late Norman Herbert Jenkins who passed away in 1987.   She was a caregiver for the elderly for several years before she retired. She was a member of Faith Temple Church, was the last surviving founding member of the church and was known as the "Mother of the Church".  She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and was quoted as saying, "her most favorite job was being 'Mother'."  She is described as the woman in Proverbs 31 and her children called her "blessed". Besides her Parents and Husband, she was preceded in death by her Daughters: Glenda Humphrey and Christine Jenkins; Sons: Carson B. Jenkins and Joel Jenkins; Sisters: Carlene Anderson, Eunice Clayton, Dahlia Jenkins and Gladys Dickey; Brother: Willard Joyner.

Survivors: Daughters and Sons-In-Law: Lois J. Reed of Savannah, Lee J. & Lamar Crawley of Savannah and Elouise J. & Todd Wilson of Sylvania; Son and Daughter-In-Law: Carroll & Sharon Jenkins of Statesboro, GA; 10 Grandchildren; 12 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Faith Temple Church.

Funeral Services: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Temple Church with Rev. Carolyn Schneider officiating.  Burial following at Faith Temple Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Willard Jenkins, Greg Joyner, Brian Joyner, Billy Jenkins, Jason Jenkins, Shane Jenkins, Jaye Derienzo and Curtis Joyner. Honorary Pallbearers:  Derek Yawn, Danny Clayton and Neil Dickey.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, PO Box 531, Statesboro, GA  30459.
