Carlton Weaver Obituary

Sylvania - Carlton Earl Weaver (Pop) died peacefully under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his family, Monday March 2, 2020.

He was born July 4th, 1927, the youngest of 9 children, here in Sylvania to James Clyde and Nora Oliver Weaver. He graduated from Sylvania High School and attended Georgia Southern College. He served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran. He was a past president of the Jaycees and also a charter member of the McDonald’s Breakfast Club where he really enjoyed starting out his day with his buddies and a cup of coffee. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and had served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, discipleship training director (10 years), choir member, yard man and a lay speaker to many of the community churches. Carlton’s favorite job was being outside in God’s creation tending the yards and plants (especially his famous trumpet vines), at his home, and the old house across town.

He was retired at age 90 from Sheppard Gas Company after 50+ years’ service of keeping many locals warm during cold weather months with gas and good conversation.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Janie Potter Weaver, and from this union, they had 3 children. Other than his parents, he was also preceded by his siblings Truman Weaver, Leo Weaver, Sr., Vetta Thompson, Estelle Rogers, Florence Patton, J.C. Weaver, Jr., Kathlene Weaver and Carrie Zeagler. He was also recently preceded in death by his grandson, Sam Weaver.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Etta Rae Weaver, and a daughter, Sharon (Stan) Sheppard, two sons, Kenny (Patti) Weaver, and Michael (Vicky) Weaver; 4 stepsons, Rick Jordan, Mark Jordan, Randy (Linda) Jordan, and Chris (Gina) Jordan; Grandchildren: Richard Sheppard, Stephanie Foldes, Nicolette Weaver, Josh Weaver and Ben Weaver, 10 Great-Grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Carlton will be remembered for his quiet strength, friendly face and great love for his family and his church.

The funeral service will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverends Bill Kent and Roland Dann officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 12:30 PM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
