Thomas Brantley Hughes, of Millen, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, surrounded by family. Born in Sylvania, GA on Saturday, December 10th, 1938, Thomas lived a rich and fulfilling life filled with love and service.

Thomas devoted much of his career to the Department of Transportation, demonstrating unwavering commitment and excellence. He also contributed his skills at the Savannah River Site (SRS), earning respect and admiration from colleagues and friends. A proud Navy Veteran, Thomas served his country with honor and dedication.

Above all, Thomas was a man of the land, nurturing his love for farming and gardening throughout his life.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Michael Hughes and C. Madge Waters Hughes; his siblings, Helen H. Adamson, A. Jewel H. Scott, Eloise H. Cail, J. Alton “Bud” Hughes; nephews, Joseph Ross Scott and Joseph David Hughes; and niece, Kathy Cail Key. He is also predeceased by his previous wives, Camilla B. Hughes and Patricia O. Hughes.

He is survived by his loving children; daughter, Karen L. Hughes and son, Thomas K. Hughes; and his special friend and partner, Nancy Jean McLamb. Thomas also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews: Danny Cail, Mike Scott, Diane Cail Quick, Bryan Cail, Herman Adamson, Laura Scott Edenfield, Julie Scott Thompson, Eddie Hughes, and Glenn Hughes, all of whom will hold his memory dear.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Professional Case Management and Georgia Hospice Care, with special thanks to Lisa Rowe, Rosalie Horton, Shymeka Hurst, Polly Worman, Donna Shafer, Kwajalein Drayton, Ingrid, Pastor Cliff, Amelia, and Madison for their compassionate care.

The family also wants to thank the McLamb family for their love and care during dads illness.

In keeping with his wishes, a private graveside service will be held at McDonald Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Wendall Edenfield Officiating.
