Margaret Louise "Weeze" Pitts Ward 76 , of Sylvania passed on January 9, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
The Screven County native was born in Newington and raised in the Dogtown Community. She grew up in the McDonald Church, attended Hiltonia primary schools, and graduated from the Screven County High School in 1967. She attended the Bowlen Business School, where she obtained a degree of study in business finance. She was employed with the Chevrolet Dealership, Sylvania Telephone and Western Auto, prior to a 35 year career with Farmers and Merchants Bank. She moonlighted as a baker, and her cakes were renowned. She and her children attended Greenhill Baptist Church, where she instilled in them the love to care for the sick and shut in elders of this community. She was an avid sports fan and had even played for Danny Lee Stewart's softball team The Flames. In her later years she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania, where she served on the meal committee. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Walter and Sarah Margaret Brower Pitts; a brother-in-law, David Scott; and a niece Bridgett Ann Woods.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammi and William "Bill" Sutton of Sylvania; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Wendy Ward of Woodstock; grandchildren Bailee Sutton, Chandler Sutton, Savannah Ward, all of Sylvania, and her beloved grandson, the late Austin Ward; brother, Andy Pitts; sister, Linda Scott; nieces and nephew, Jennifer Smith and Jason and Echo Scott; a great-niece, Abagail Smith; and two great great-nieces, Madison Tyson and Hazel Tyson, all of Sylvania.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Thompson Strickland Waters Joiner Anderson Chapel on Friday January 16,2026 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Charlie Cooper and Rev. Clint Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM.
Interment will follow in the Screven Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Hayden Wells, Jason Scott, Dylan Tyson, Donny Teston, Charles Wells, and Russell Brower.
Honorary pallbearers will be Coleen Rulin, Mickie Odom, Gloria Becton, Angie Johnson, Wanda Beard, and Margaret Evans.
