Lunette Myers Whitehead

Lunette Myers Whitehead, age 91, of Sylvania, passed away on April 24, 2026. She was born on February 26, 1935, in Jenkins County, Georgia, and remained a lifelong resident of the Sylvania community.

Mrs. Whitehead was married to her beloved husband, the late John “Buddy” Etheridge Whitehead, for 56 years. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and community.

She retired from Piggly Wiggly grocery store and later began a second career as a paraprofessional with the Screven County Board of Education, where she touched the lives of many students and colleagues.

A devoted member of Buck Creek Church, Lunette loved the Lord and lived her faith daily. She found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, and bingo, and was well known for her love of cooking and sharing meals with those she loved.

She is survived by her son, Larry Whitehead; her grandchildren, Jason (Jessica), Jonathan, Justin (Rachel), Stephanie, Bucky, and Devin (Alanna); 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Heiden Myers; her husband’s siblings, Sollie Whitehead (Betty), Margie Whitehead Godbee, Pete Daily, and Marie Whitehead Hutchinson; and a special friend, Madlyn Arnett.

She was preceded in death by her faithful husband, John “Buddy” Etheridge Whitehead; her son, Johnny Whitehead; her siblings, Edward Myers (Catherine), Earl Myers (Eva), Jessie Myers (Donna), Allene Myers McClain (Hubert), and Homer Myers; her husband’s siblings, Lewis Whitehead (Carrie), David Whitehead (Voncile), Thomas Godbee, Louise Whitehead Daley, and Billy Hutchinson; and a special friend, Betty Jean Newton.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Buck Creek Church fellowship hall, with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Interment will follow in Screven Memorial Cemetery.

Pastor Carroll Gay and Pastor Kevin Rountree will be officiating with Joette Massey playing piano.

Pallbearers will be Jason Whitehead, Jonathan Whitehead, Justin Whitehead, Devin Whitehead, Raleigh Whitehead, Bucky Whitehead, and Wyatt Beasley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Betty French, Dorothy Glisson, Gloria Lariscy, Austin and Nancy Blackburn, Peggy Beasley, Rick and Sarah Green, Moss Whitehead, Cindy Williams, Nancy Brinson, and Diane Miller.
