Herbert Alvin Zelt

Mr. Herbert Alvin Zelt, 75, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 5, 1949 in St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania to William and Rose Zelt. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant. During his service he earned the Bronze Seargeant Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Two Oversea Bars, and the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar M-16. He served from February 1970 until July 1971in Indochina and Korea service. He also served in Vietnam from July 1970 until July 1971; he earned his honorable discharge in November of 1977. After serving his country, he worked as a mail carrier for Bulloch County. He married his loving wife on March 30, 2005.

He is preceded in death by his parents; William & Rose Zelt, a daughter, Amanda Zelt, and a son, John Zelt; as well as his Siblings, Margaret Kurtz, Rosie Peters, and Bill Zelt.

He is survived by the love of his life, Rebecca Lynn Bragg Zelt. He also leaves behind his children: Adam Zelt, Angie Zelt, Ashley and her husband Brennen Elliott, Felicia Zelt, Matthew and his wife Tamara Zelt, Tyler Zelt, Gracie Bragg, and Kacie Zelt.

He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings: Dorothy, John, Jerry, and Helen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home, Joiner Anderson Chapel. The family will receive friends half an hour before the service.
