Grover “Pete” Roger Hutto, Jr., 72, of Sylvania, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, in Sylvania, Georgia. He was born on March 23, 1953 in Panama City, FL.
Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared 28 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Ann Hutto. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and faith. Above all else, Pete loved his family deeply and took great pride in each of them.
Pete dedicated 50 years of his life to his trade as a welder. He retired from Local 188 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to craftsmanship. He moved to the Sylvania area to work on Plant Vogtle and quickly grew to love the community. The area meant so much to him that he purchased property and made it his permanent home.
Outside of work, Pete enjoyed collecting and shooting guns, particularly target shooting. It was a hobby that brought him relaxation and enjoyment over the years. Whether spending time outdoors, working with his hands, or simply gathering with loved ones, he found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful moments.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Roger Hutto, Sr.; his mother, Ann Forehand MaCartney; and his brother, Gary Hutto.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Hutto; his children, Amanda Hutto-Shepard (Aaron) and Joshua Hutto (Rona); his step-children, Carla Schill (Mark), Elizabeth Vega (Ron), and Sarah Heddinger; his grandchildren, Dakota Shepard, Lucas Hutto, Haley Hutto, and Mia Hutto; his step-grandchildren, Jessica Tyre (Kevin), Rebekah Heddinger, Matthew Heddinger, and Andrew Heddinger; his siblings, Teresa Malone (Jim), Balinda Hirsch (Brad), Jack Hutto, and Denise Carey; his best friend, Rusty Scates; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial service to honor Pete’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters, Joiner Anderson Chapel.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Regency SouthernCare Hospice and Mrs. Mary Jones for the wonderful care and compassion shown during this time.
