Douglas Alton McBride entered into eternal rest on June 25th, 2026. He was born in Screven County to George Otis McBride and Maude Bassett McBride on October 5, 1939. Alton was the 5th child of 11 children. He was a member of McDonald Baptist Church for 66 years. He was married on December 20, 1957 to the love of his life, Mildred Brannen McBride. She has preceded him in death. He spent his life in service to his family and church.

Alton retired from the Thompson Company in 1986 and started a new career with Sylvania Fire Department where he worked until December 31, 2001. In his years of retirement, he enjoyed gardening, helping his family, kids, grandkids great-grandkids with anything that they needed. Besides his wife of 67 years, he is preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt Reba Bassett and many of his siblings. Those siblings include: Lorine M. Thompson, Gloria M. Becton, Jewel M. Becton, Otis McBride, Faye M. Montgomery, Arnold McBride, and Barbara M. Speering.

He is survived by three sons and their spouses. They are Joey A. McBride (Angel), Todd T. McBride(Andrea) of Sylvania, Georgia and Tracy L. McBride (Erica) of Statesboro, Georgia. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Macay McBride (Dru), Brooke M. Collins (Drake), Tyler McBride (Alicia), Brannen McBride (Anna Lee), Conor McBride (Alexis), and Olivia McBride. Alton had the privilege of knowing and loving on 7 wonderful great grandchildren; Stone, Stella, Malley, Clare, Archer, Sawyer, and Elizabeth.

Alton leaves behind three of his siblings: Gayle M. Ramsey, Wanda McBride, and Jerry McBride. He has been blessed with many cousins, nieces, and nephews to cherish his memory. Life long friend of the family, the Reverend Horace Lariscy, III, will be the officiant.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons: Macay McBride, Drake Collins, Tyler McBride, Brannen McBride, Conor McBride, Sawyer Ferrell, and Archer Collins.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be the devoted membership of McDonald Baptist Church and his wonderful caregivers: Annie Broadnex, Lyndsay Scott, Latrell Jenkins, Sheila Taylor, and Stella Morris.

.Visitation will be Sunday June 28, 2026 from 1:00-2:00 pm with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at McDonald Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at McDonald Baptist Church Cemetery.
