SYLVANIA

Charles Wayward Thompson age 90 of Sylvania, GA passed away on May 1, 2026. He was born on March 19, 1936 in Sylvania, GA. He remained a lifelong resident of Screven County and resided on Roberts Bridge Road.

Mr. Thompson was a farmer and retired from Sylvania Spinning Plant after over 30 years of service.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, JoAnn Thompson of 68 years, two sons, James Wayward Thompson (Patsy), and Robert Lewis Thompson (Julie). Seven grandchildren, Ben Thompson (Jonna), Austin Thompson (Mallory), Dalton Thompson (Shannon), Alicia McBride (Tyler), Hannah Gay (Josh), Kristin Quick (Ron), and Kara Smiley (Shawn). Fourteen great-grandchildren, Luke, Jillian, Caroline, Sawyer, Kennedy, Bella, Ella, Sofia, Tatum, Elizabeth, and Daniel.

Pallbearers will be Ben Thompson, Austin Thompson, Benjie Thompson, Tyler McBride, Josh Gay, and Andy Harrison.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Masons of Sylvania, #301 Lodge.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 2:00-3:00 P.M. at Thompson Strickland Waters, Joiner Anderson Chapel with the service to follow at 3:00 P.M.

Interment to follow at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
