Carole Hunt Rackley, 83, passed away on August 6, 2026, in Sylvania, Georgia. Born on November 10, 1942, in Dallas, Georgia, Carole was the daughter of Gib and Vera Hunt. The values of family, hard work, and community that shaped her childhood remained with her throughout her life.
For the past 30 years, Carole made her home in Screven County, where she became a cherished member of the community. She dedicated her career to educating young minds as an elementary school teacher in the Cobb County and Paulding County school systems.
Carole found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially searching for antiques and attending pottery shows with her beloved husband. Together, they spent many happy hours traveling in search of forgotten treasures, and lovingly refinishing them. She also loved to travel, discovering new places and creating lasting memories.
As a young woman, Carole was deeply involved in her family's beloved tradition of operating Hunt's Meadow County Fair. The fair was an important part of her upbringing and fostered her lifelong appreciation for community and bringing people together.
Above all, Carole treasured her family. She expressed her love through home-cooked meals, warm hospitality, and the time she spent with those she held dear. Her kitchen was a gathering place where family and friends were always welcomed with love.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Gib and Vera Hunt; her daughter, Carla Rackley; and her grandson, William K. Rackley.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Charles R. Rackley; her son, Charles K. Rackley (Diane); her grandchildren, Jonah K. Rackley (Elizabeth) and Stormie Jean Rackley (Jordan); her brother, Phil Hunt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Joiner Anderson Chapel.
A funeral service celebrating Carole's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Joiner Anderson Chapel, with Rev. Bill Kent and Dr. Jeff Wright officiating. Interment will be private.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate home health nurses, nursing staff of the Swing Bed Unit at Optim-Screven and the dedicated caregivers of Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided to Carole during her final days. Their support and compassion will always be remembered with sincere appreciation.
