Barbara Hillis Boozer, age 99, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at her residence in Sylvania, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 12, 1927, in Thomson, Georgia, Barbara lived a long and meaningful life marked by love, devotion, and kindness. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Barbara dedicated many years of her life to education as a teacher, serving students in the Brunswick area, Augusta, and Screven County. She was passionate about teaching and touched the lives of countless students throughout her career with her patience, wisdom, and caring nature.
She was also a faithful member of First Baptist Sylvania. Barbara enjoyed spending time with friends through her involvement in several clubs and organizations, including card club, garden club, and a retired teachers group. She treasured the friendships and fellowship these groups brought throughout her life.
An excellent cook, Barbara lovingly prepared meals for family and friends throughout the years, creating cherished memories around her table. She also had a special love for her pets, who brought her great joy and companionship.
She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering love for her family, and the many memories she created throughout her lifetime. Her legacy of compassion and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon “Sam” Boozer; her parents, Dewey “Duke” and Catherine Hillis; and her sister, Jessie Kelly Morris.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Waters; sister, Carol Evans; granddaughter, Heather Waters; cousins, Jane Wright, Alice Royal, and Ann Taylor; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Screven Memorial Cemetery.
